Bathroom and Kitchen

From Kt Van Meter
One of the things I hate the most is to clean my tub and shower stall. My friend told me to whisk the kids out of the tub and while they are getting ready for bed, to add a 1/2 cup of Tide and 1 cup of bleach to the tub, let it sit, then use a bathroom toilet brush (one I bought especially for this task) to scrub up the sides. Finish rinsing with hot water and you're finished. I do this about once or twice a week and never get that yucky yellowish brown ring that I used to hate so much.

Clean your shower pole with waxed paper & your shower curtain will glide across easily!

I usually clean the bathroom and toilet while supervising the kids in the bath. They have company, I can keep an eye on things and a chore gets done.

Instead of trying to scrub the soap scum from the bathtub at least once a week, why not do it immediately after every bath? While the tub is still wet, take your cleaning towel and wash out the tub. Usually, you don't even need a cleaning product. You will be surprised at the time you will save when you do your deep cleaning because you took a few seconds every day to rinse out that tub!

To keep the toilet bowl clean, put the bowl cleaner in the toilet before you leave the house in the morning. When you get home, you just run the brush around once or twice and flush. It gets clean and stays clean without much trouble at all. This is so simple to do, you can do it a few times a week and really keep things sanitized.

Use bleach on the grout in the tub, it keeps it clean without damaging anything essential. I keep bleach in a spray bottle to use on cleaning day.

Use isopropol alcohol to "shine" faucets, stainless steel sinks and countertops.

Load the dishwasher to run at night, so you wake up to clean dishes in the morning.

When I'm stressed over something, angry, depressed and/or start feeling like my life is out of control, I wash dishes. By the time I'm done doing them all (and there's usually quite a few) I feel 1,000% better. My family has learned to walk lightly through the kitchen when I'm doing dishes. They're never quite sure if I'm doing it to improve my mood or because they just need to be done. I believe doing my dishes (which also includes wiping down the counter, taking out kitchen trash and cleaning range top) gives me a sense of control over something when all else feels out of control.

Sort cans and boxes in cabinets by type of food. For instance all the tomato products together, soups together, beans and vegetables together, separately. Keep the baking spices and ingredients separate from the meal ingredients to alleviate endless searches.

Fit as many trash bags as you can, in your kitchen garbage bucket. When the trash is ready to empty, just pull out the full bag and another one is ready for use.

When you haven't had time to clean all day and it's time for hubby to come home. Run and quickly pour some pine-scented cleaning fluid (like Pinesol) down the sink drains and in the toilet. This always results in my husband bragging about how "nice" the house looks because he smells the pine smell and assumes I've been cleaning all day! (grin!)

From Zona Avila
For children's dinners, I cover my table with butcher paper, taped, then give the kids crayons to "decorate the table cloth." This makes messy clean up afterwards, easy.
